Former Soccer Star Saunders’ DUI

Dean Saunders is a retired professional footballer who set records as a striker.

Saunder’s career lasted from 1982 to 2001.  During that time he played for Liverpool, Aston Villa, Brighton, Oxford United, Bradford City, Nottingham Forrest, Sheffield United and some other teams.

After retiring he coached and worked in management for several teams.

In May of 2019 Saunders was stopped for terrible driving.

The first Court sentenced him to 10 weeks in jail, a disposition he appealed.

At the traffic stop, Saunders admitted to having one pint; Saunders allegedly could not walk from his vehicle to the police vehicle without help.

Saunders refused to provide a breath sample at the police station after his arrest for drink driving.

Saunders apparently thought he could consult with a lawyer before deciding; he could not.  Saunder’s lawyer represented in the first hearing that Saunders had two pints which may have interacted negatively with his knee medication and asthma inhaler.
